CertainTeed Ridge Vent Installation: The Pasadena Owner’s Guide
We stock and install CertainTeed ridge vent systems throughout Pasadena, with most full ridge vent replacements on a standard single-family home running between $650 and $1,150 installed, including removal of the old vent, new CertainTeed-compatible material, and a written warranty on the work. Same-day service is available for straightforward replacements when we have the matching profile on the truck. Most Pasadena homeowners discover the problem the same way: dark streaks forming along the ceiling near the ridge line, a musty smell in the attic after a Santa Ana wind event, or a neighbor pointing out that the vent cap looks warped and cracked from the street.
Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To
CertainTeed makes three main ridge vent profiles we see across Pasadena roofs: the Ridge Vent (their basic rolled product for standard shingle applications), the Ridge Vent with Shingle-Over design, and the high-capacity version rated for vaulted ceilings and homes with unusually steep pitches in neighborhoods like San Rafael Hills and Hastings Ranch. The quickest way to identify what you have is to look at the vent’s profile from the side or pull the brand label from the underside of a damaged section before we arrive. CertainTeed vents are engineered to match CertainTeed shingle profiles in thickness and nail patterns, which means a generic aftermarket vent can sit slightly proud of the shingle line and create a lip that wind-driven rain can catch. We generally recommend staying with OEM or a direct-spec equivalent for CertainTeed systems because the nail line and the vent’s baffle spacing are matched to CertainTeed’s cap shingle, not a universal fit. If you’re not sure what you have, we’ll identify it during the inspection walk at no charge.

Signs Your CertainTeed Ridge Vent Installation Is Failing
- Attic heat buildup you can feel in the hallway. In Pasadena summers, a working ridge vent should let hot air escape steadily. When the vent’s internal baffle collapses or the vent channel gets blocked by old roofing debris, the attic becomes an oven and your air conditioner works harder. You’ll notice the upstairs feels hotter than the downstairs by late afternoon.
- Moisture streaks near the ceiling’s high point. When a CertainTeed ridge vent’s shingle-over flap cracks or the end caps separate, rain follows the ridge line down. The staining usually starts where the ceiling meets the peak, not at the walls. This is the most common failure pattern we see on 15-to-20-year-old vent work in Pasadena.
- Birds or rodents in the attic. A ridge vent with a broken baffle or missing end cap is an open door. Squirrels in particular will chew through a cracked plastic vent profile in a single afternoon. Droppings near the attic hatch or scratching at dawn are the usual signs.
- Visible cracking or brittleness on the vent cap. Southern California UV exposure ages plastic vent material faster than most homeowners expect. After about a decade in direct Pasadena sun, CertainTeed vent caps can become chalky and brittle. If you can see hairline cracks from the ground or from a ladder, the vent is nearing the end.
- Shingles lifting near the ridge line. A failed vent profile can let wind get under the cap shingles and lift them. If your ridge cap shingles look uneven or you can see the vent material underneath, the system isn’t sealing anymore. Left alone, that lifted section becomes a wind-driven rain entry point.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For most Pasadena homes, a full CertainTeed ridge vent replacement runs between $650 and $1,150. The range comes down to three things: how many linear feet of ridge your roofline has, whether the existing vent can be pulled cleanly or requires shingle repair around the ridge, and whether we need to replace just the vent profile or the vent and the cap shingle together. Homes in Linda Vista and Annandale with long, single ridge lines tend to fall in the middle of that range. Homes with multiple ridge sections or dormer intersections run higher because the labor is fussier. You’ll get a written price in dollars before any work starts, covering the new vent material, removal and disposal of the old vent, installation, and a full workmanship warranty through our 365-Day Done Right Promise.
DIY or Call Us?
You can absolutely do the diagnostic work yourself: check the ridge line for visible cracks, look at your attic insulation near the peak for dark moisture marks, and note any animal activity. But ridge vent replacement means working at the roof’s highest point, handling cap shingles, and correctly sealing end caps against wind-driven rain. That’s not a weekend ladder project. We’ve seen more than a few homeowners in Pasadena replace a ridge vent with a universal product from a big-box store, only to call us a year later when the profile didn’t match their CertainTeed cap shingle and leaked at the seams. If you’d rather hand it to someone who does this specific repair regularly, call (626) 657-5397 and we’ll schedule the inspection walk.
FAQs
A CertainTeed ridge vent in Pasadena’s UV-heavy, dry climate typically lasts 12 to 18 years before the plastic profile becomes brittle enough to crack. Homes with full southern roof exposure tend to see failures on the earlier end of that range.
Small end-cap separations or a single cracked section can sometimes be repaired if the surrounding vent material is still pliable. Once the vent profile is brittle across multiple sections, spot repair is a temporary patch and we’ll tell you that honestly. Call (626) 657-5397 and we’ll give you a straight answer based on what we find.
A standard single-ridge vent replacement on a Pasadena home takes one day, usually four to six hours from setup to the final clean-up photo. Multiple ridge lines or complicated roof geometry can push it into a second morning.
Yes. We keep the standard CertainTeed profiles and the most common universal-spec equivalents on the truck, along with matching cap shingle material for most CertainTeed shingle colors used across Pasadena. If your profile is uncommon, we’ll have it sourced and scheduled for the next available date.
We do. While CertainTeed is one of the most common systems we service in Pasadena, we also stock and install ridge vents for GAF and Owens Corning roofs. If you’re not sure what brand is on your ridge line, we’ll identify it during the free inspection walk.
