IKO Ridge Vent Installation: The Pasadena Owner’s Guide

We install IKO-compatible ridge vent on Pasadena homes, and most replacements run between $450 and $950 installed depending on how many linear feet of ridge you have, the pitch of your roof, and whether the old vent comes off cleanly or fights us. The job itself usually takes one visit, and we carry common IKO-profile ridge vent material on the truck so we’re not making you wait on a second trip. Most Pasadena homeowners discover their ridge vent has failed the same way: a bedroom feels stuffier than it used to, a utility bill creeps up in August, or they spot cracked plastic at the peak during gutter cleaning.

Which IKO Models This Applies To

IKO ridge vent isn’t one product. The company makes several profiles, and the one your roof needs depends on what was originally installed and what your roofer used for the cap shingles. The two you’ll most likely see on Pasadena roofs are the IKO Ultra HP and the older IKO Ventilation Roll. The Ultra HP is a rigid polypropylene vent with an external baffle and weather filter, sold in 4-foot sections. The roll version is more flexible and gets used on lower-slope ridges. If you’re not sure which you have, look at the exposed end at the gable or where a hip meets the ridge: the Ultra HP looks like a low, dark plastic profile sitting just under the cap shingles. The roll looks almost like stiff mesh.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha that catches a lot of Pasadena homeowners: the cap shingles on top of the vent aren’t part of the vent itself. You can pair IKO ridge vent with IKO cap shingles or a competitor’s cap shingles. But the vent profile has to match what’s already up there, because a taller aftermarket vent will lift your cap shingles and make them catch wind. We’ll match what you have rather than upsell you into a mismatched profile. And while we install IKO-compatible parts every week, we’re an independent Pasadena roofing contractor, not an IKO subsidiary or authorized dealer. We also stock parts for GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed systems, so we’re brand-realistic rather than brand-loyal.

Signs Your IKO Ridge Vent Installation Is Failing

  • Plastic sections lifting or curling at the peak. This happens when the vent was nailed too close to the edge during the original install, or when years of Pasadena sun have made the polypropylene brittle. Once it curls, rain driving from the east can sneak under the lip.
  • Granules from the cap shingles collecting in the gutter. Ridge cap shingles take direct sun all day and fail faster than the field shingles below them. Bare spots on the cap mean the vent underneath is next to lose its covering.
  • Attic temperature climbing even on mild afternoons. A ridge vent that’s clogged with dust, nesting material, or collapsed baffles can’t exhaust heat. If your Pasadena attic feels 20 degrees hotter than the outside air in October, the vent isn’t breathing.
  • Damp insulation or moisture staining along the attic peak. The weather filter inside the vent is supposed to stop wind-driven rain. Once it degrades, light rain hitting the ridge can wick straight down into the attic.
  • You can see daylight where the vent meets the ridge opening. That’s a sign the original crew cut the slot too wide or the vent shifted. Unfiltered gaps let in embers during fire season and insects year-round.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Pasadena, budget $450 to $650 for a straightforward ridge vent replacement on a single-story home with 30 to 40 linear feet of ridge, assuming the existing vent comes off without tearing up the cap shingles beyond reuse. If the cap shingles are shot and need to be replaced too, you’re looking at $700 to $950 or a bit more, because new IKO cap shingles add material cost and we have to re-nail them to match the profile. Two-story homes and steep pitches push labor up as well.

Every quote we give includes the vent material, fasteners, weather filter, removal of the old vent, and full cleanup. You’ll have the price in writing before we touch a single shingle. No figuring out later whether “materials” meant the nails too. And our work on your ridge vent is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right, we make it right. That’s stamped on every job sheet.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: whether the plastic sections look cracked or lifted from the ground with binoculars, whether the cap shingles above the vent are missing granules, and whether the attic feels unusually still on a breezy afternoon. What you should not do is walk a Pasadena ridge line with a nail gun unless you’re a roofer. Ridge work means you’re standing at the steepest transition on the roof, often on clay tile or steep comp shingles, and the fall risk is real. We’ve also seen DIY replacements where the vent was overlapped backwards, which turns it into a funnel for rain instead of an exhaust.

If you’ve done your homework and the vent is clearly failing, give us a call at (626) 657-5397. Erik Lindgren and the crew will walk the roof, show you exactly what’s failed, and hand you a written quote before anything gets ordered. No pressure. We’d rather you know the number and decide on your own timeline.
