Atlas Roof Replacement in Pasadena: What to Know First
Atlas roof replacement in Pasadena typically runs $14,000 to $28,000 for a full tear-off on a standard single-story home, with most jobs completed in 3 to 5 working days. We’re an independent Atlas service provider, which means we install and warranty the materials honestly without pretending to be the manufacturer’s own crew. You’ll get a written price before any work starts, and that price includes tear-off, decking inspection, installation, and a photographed clean-up.
This page is for Pasadena homeowners who already have Atlas shingles or are considering them for a replacement. If the roof is leaking, buckling, or showing granule loss in the gutters, call (626) 657-5397 and we’ll walk the roof with you before you spend a dollar.
How Atlas Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
- Pinnacle Pristine shingle blow-offs along the rake edges. In Pasadena’s October wind events, we see Atlas Pinnacle Pristine shingles lift where the seal strip never fully bonded. The usual cause is installation in cooler months when the thermal sealant didn’t activate. Our fix during replacement is simple but specific: we hand-seal rake and eave shingles with an approved asphalt adhesive, which costs pennies per shingle and stops the blow-off pattern from repeating.
- StormMaster Shake granule shedding into gutters. The StormMaster Shake profile has deep shadow bands that trap more granular material as it releases over time. A homeowner with Atlas StormMaster Shake will often find a thick black grit in the gutters after every rain. That’s normal aging, not a defect, but by year 18 on a Pasadena roof it usually means the fiberglass mat is exposed and the roof has crossed from repair to replacement. We confirm by looking at the south-facing slopes, which sun-scorch fastest here.
- GlassMaster felt underlayment drying out under Atlas Castlebrook. Older Atlas Castlebrook installations in Pasadena frequently used GlassMaster felt, which gets brittle in our dry heat and tears at the nail lines. The shingles above look fine, but water gets under them at the flashing points. On a replacement we pull everything down to the deck and switch to a synthetic underlayment that doesn’t dry-rot the way felt does in a two-season climate.
- Algae streaking on north-facing Atlas slopes. Pasadena’s morning marine layer leaves north-facing roofs damp for hours. Atlas shingles with copper-infused granules resist streaking better than most, but nothing fully stops it. When we replace, we talk about whether to add zinc strips under the ridge cap or just accept that the north slope will streak again in five years. We’d rather set that expectation upfront than have you wonder what we did wrong.
- Sealant bonding failure on Atlas Architectural series. We’ve replaced more than a few Atlas Architectural roofs where the shingles were mechanically sound but every third or fourth shingle had released from the one below it. This happens when the original installer over-nailed and the shingle tab couldn’t sit flat. On a new replacement, we train our crew to set nails just below the sealant line and check tab flatness with a straightedge before moving on. It’s slower work, but it’s the difference between a 12-year roof and a 25-year roof.

Our Atlas Roof Replacement Process
- 1
Call and walk. You call (626) 657-5397. We schedule a time to get on the roof and look at what’s actually failing. No charge for the inspection, and if Erik does the walk himself, you’ll get a written note on what he found.
- 2
Written scope and price. Before anyone touches a shingle, you have a line-item price in writing: tear-off, decking, underlayment, shingles, flashing, haul-away, and clean-up. If we find bad decking after tear-off, that’s a separate line item with a price you already approved in writing.
- 3
Parts decision. We’ll show you which Atlas lines match your home and which aftermarket accessories are worth it: ridge vents, drip edge, synthetic underlayment. We don’t push proprietary accessories that lock you into one warranty channel.
- 4
Tear-off and decking check. We pull the old Atlas roof down to the deck and go over every sheet. In Pasadena’s older craftsman homes, particularly around Bungalow Heaven, the original decking is often 1x sheathing with gaps. We replace rotted sheets and re-nail anything loose before underlayment goes down.
- 5
Installation and daily clean-up. Shoe covers at the door, drop cloths through the hallway to the ladder, and magnets across the yard at the end of every day. If the dog needs to stay inside, we coordinate the door schedule so the crew isn’t parading through the living room while the dog is loose.
- 6
Final walk and photo. We walk the finished roof with you if you want, then photograph the completed clean-up before the crew leaves. You get the photo. If the work isn’t right, the 365-Day Done Right Promise means we come back and make it right.

AfterWhat Atlas Roof Replacement Costs in Pasadena
Here’s what we see in Pasadena for a full Atlas tear-off and replacement on a typical 1,800 to 2,200 square foot single-story home:
- Atlas Pinnacle Pristine full replacement: $13,500 to $22,000 depending on tear-off layers, decking condition, and slope complexity.
- Atlas StormMaster Shake full replacement: $16,000 to $26,000. The heavier profile costs more in labor and material.
- Atlas Castlebrook full replacement with synthetic underlayment: $14,500 to $24,000.
- Atlas Architectural series full replacement: $12,800 to $20,500.
- Decking replacement per sheet (if rot is found): $95 to $140 per 4×8 sheet, always pre-priced in writing.
What moves the price in Pasadena: whether the home has one layer or two layers to tear off, what shape the decking is in, how many roof penetrations need re-flashing, and whether the crew needs to hand-load materials around a tight side yard. The estimate is free, and the number we give you is the number you pay unless we find rotted decking after tear-off and trigger the pre-approved line item. Call (626) 657-5397 and we’ll come out.
Why Pasadena Homeowners Call Birchbark Roofing Pasadena for Atlas Work
Most Pasadena homeowners don’t wake up thinking about shingle sealant chemistry. They want to know the crew won’t wreck the house while replacing the roof. That’s the part of the job we treat as our actual work.
We’re part of the Cedarwell family of roofing businesses, which has held independent local shops to the same standard since 2000. That standard is written down and called the Cedarwell Care Promise. The parts that matter inside your home: Clean up like it’s our own home. Ask before we move or touch anything. Respect the family’s time and quiet hours. Explain the price before the work. Those aren’t slogans. Our crew wears shoe covers, lays drop cloths, and sends you a photo of the clean-up before they pack the ladder.
We also work with GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed, so if an Atlas product isn’t the right fit for your roof’s pitch or your budget, we’ll say so and show you options. You’ll have the price in writing before we touch a single shingle.
FAQs
No. Replacing an Atlas roof doesn’t void the original material warranty from the original installation, but any defect claim on the new roof depends on using the shingles correctly and keeping documentation. We photograph the installation and keep records so if an Atlas warranty claim comes up later, you have what you need to file it.
Yes, Atlas Pinnacle Pristine, StormMaster Shake, and Architectural lines are all in current production. Our Pasadena suppliers stock the common colors, so we can usually have materials on-site within a week. Custom color match orders or the heavier StormMaster profiles sometimes take up to three weeks. We’ll tell you the real lead time before you commit, not after the old roof is off.
Repair makes sense if the roof is under 12 years old, the damage is contained to one slope, and the decking underneath is sound. Replacement is the better call when granule loss shows exposed fiberglass mat, multiple slopes are failing, or the roof is past 18 years in Pasadena’s sun exposure. We’ll give you both prices, and we’ll tell you honestly which one we’d do on our own house.
Most full replacements run three to five working days once materials are on the ground. Larger homes, steep slopes, or decking replacement can stretch to a week. We don’t rush a roof, but we also don’t leave your home exposed longer than necessary. Call (626) 657-5397 and we’ll give you a schedule along with the written price.
Yes. Pasadena requires a building permit for full roof replacement, and we pull it, schedule the inspection, and make sure the job passes before we consider it done. The permit cost is on your written estimate as a line item. You’ll never get a surprise “permit fee” added after the job starts.
